Ton Felices (Barcelona, 2002) is a rising double bass player based in Amsterdam who has already accumulated an extensive and diverse career.
Ton Felices (2002) is an Award winning double bass player and composer based in Amsterdam. His music describes landscapes and feelings of an ever changing contemporary world full with energetic and futuristic jazz and electronic influences.
Ton is a fixture in Amsterdam's creative music scene and recorded and performed with artists such as David Binney, Miguel Zenón, Jorge Rossy, Ben van Gelder, Pablo Held, Philip Dizack, Cécile McLorin and Gilad Hekselman among others. His versatility and melodic and virtuosic approach to the bass allow him to play frequently in a wide variety of contexts: Ton performs extensively in The Netherlands as well as internationally. He is been honored with the following awards:
First Prize Prinses Christina Concours (2021), First Prize of Juventudes Musicales de España (2022), First Prize with "Calima" (2025) and Best Amsterdam Soloist with his Quartet (2024) in Keep An Eye International Jazz Award.
The young double bassist also performs solo in a series of intimate dialogues with his instrument. Solo but not alone, he and his bass create delicate soundscapes and open doors for the imagination, inviting reflection on the nuances of sound, shapes and colors. Vivid music: his powerful lyricism and virtuosic command of the instrument ensure the listener to enjoy the ride up close.
As a bass player his powerful lyricism and virtuosic command of the instrument allow him to effortlessly move between styles and break boundaries that open doors for the imagination. Ton has performed in stages such as North Sea Jazz, Concertgebouw, Palau de la Música, Amsterdam Jazzfest, Konserthuset Stockholm, Bird’s Eye Jazzclub among others.
Born in Vilafranca del Penedès, close to Barcelona, Ton started playing double bass at the age of 9. He soon became interested in both classical and jazz music and by age 15 he was performing internationally by joining the National Orchestra of Catalunya (JONC) and Sant Andreu Jazz Band. In 2020 he moved to Amsterdam during the pandemic to pursue his studies in music. Soon after, life in Amsterdam offered him the possibility to join plenty of local bands and collaborate with the most talented artists in the scene. He spent half a year on exchange in Los Angeles, where he met some of the most exceptional artists in the world buildings connections between the musical scenes of Amsterdam and the city of Los Angeles. This connections showed in two sold-out shows in The Workship (January 2024) and the Roode Bioscoop (January 2025).
Some highlights are joining Ben van Gelder in several trio and quartet concerts -featuring Gilad Hekselman-, playing with Xavi Torres trio in many occasions -featuring Miguel Zenón-, an unforgettable Los Angeles/Amsterdam crossover concert joining Teis Semey’s Large Ensemble and David Binney/Henry Salomon/Jamie Peet/ Ton Felices in the Roode Bioscoop, performing in North Sea Jazz 2024 with Ella Zirina trio, winning the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award 2025 in BIMHUIS and performing internationally with Rita Payés -and many others- in stages in Morocco, Cuba, Los Angeles and all over Europe.
